1 Is Eurocentres Auckland a good school?

Yes! We are part of the Eurocentres worldwide group and share their very high quality standards. We also meet New Zealand's government standards, administered and audited by the NZQA (the New Zealand Qualifications Authority). You can visit the NZQA website at www.nzqa.govt.nz

2 How do you choose your teachers?

Our Head of Schools selects teachers based on their qualifications and experience in teaching English to non-native speakers. Teachers also have to undergo a demonstration lesson at Eurocentres Auckland before they are employed so we can see how they interact with our students.

4 What happens on the first day of the course?

You are given a written and spoken English test. This helps us to place you in a class with other students of a similar level of English. You are introduced to the students and staff and given a tour of the school. We also give you a tour of the local area.

5 How many levels are there at Eurocentres Auckland?

There are 10 levels - from Beginner to Advanced. All Eurocentres schools use the same placement test on Day 1 of your course. We even use the results of your test to design a personal study plan for you.

6 Can I prepare for examinations like IELTS or Cambridge First Certificate?

Yes. The IELTS / EAP Super-Intensive course at Eurocentres Auckland prepares students for the IELTS examination. We also offer Cambridge FCE & CAE preparation courses.
See our 2010 dates and fees for more information on examination courses.

7 Can I prepare for university study in an English-speaking country?

Yes. The IELTS / EAP Super-Intensive is for students who would like to study at university in an English-speaking country. The course focuses on English for academic purposes. It also prepares you for the IELTS examination. Many of our former students are now studying at universities in New Zealand & Australia.

8 What kind of accommodation do you offer for students?

Most of our students choose to stay in a host family arranged by the school. Living with a host family is the best way to improve your English and experience the Kiwi lifestyle. When you enrol you can tell us what kind of family you prefer. We will then do our best to satisfy your requests.
You can also stay in a student residence in the centre of Auckland. You can live in your own apartment, or share a 2-bedroomed apartment with another international student.
Visit the Empire student residence website

9 What can I do if I'm not satisfied with my host family?

Talk to the Accommodation & Welfare Officer. She works in the school full-time. Her job is to make sure you are happy and comfortable living in Auckland.

10 How will I get to school each day?

If you stay with a host family the family will show you the easiest way to get to Eurocentres. Most of our students use the bus or ferry. You can buy a weekly or monthly bus pass, our staff will help you do this. On your first day we will give you a city map and information about bus services.

12 What if I have a problem and I don't know what to do?

Talk to your Centre Manager. They will listen and treat the matter as confidential. In some situations, particularly where your health is at risk or there are legal implications, it might be necessary to involve other people, but your Centre Manager will tell you if this is the case. You can also have the option of speaking to a counsellor in your own language. It is important for you to know that Eurocentres will do everything possible to help you or to get assistance for you from outside support agencies, if this is necessary.

13 Can I extend my course after I arrive in New Zealand?

Yes. The school staff can help you extend your course and accommodation. You might need to get a new student permit/visa depending on the length of your initial course and what type of visa you are studying on. If you are currently on a student visa you will need to show the NZIS (New Zealand Immigration Service) proof that your attendance is good. You can find out more about NZ student visas by visiting www.immigration.govt.nz
